Boys Who Say No Release Their First LP

Mike Lobel’s band Boys Who Say No has been making waves on the Toronto music scene lately. This week they released Contingencies, their first LP, and they have recently performed with Born Ruffians (!!) and Japanther. Along with our own Mike Lobel, the band also includes Luke Correia-Damude, Antonio Naranjo and Frank Cox-O’Connell. Follow their official twitter account and check out their website for show dates & more.

And I know that most of you will be watching the season premiere on Friday, but some of you old Degrassi fans might like to go to Boys Who Say No’s record release party. It’s at the The Steamwhistle Brewery in Toronto. The cost is $5, and doors open at 8pm.

Degrassi Recording a New Theme Song!

Degrassi is recording its new theme song today!!

The current Degrassi theme song has been used since season 9. For season 11, it’s time for something new! We don’t know the details of the new theme yet, but we’re guessing they will stick with “whatever it takes” (how could they get rid of a classic?).

We do know, however, that they have been recording with Tia from Eve and the Ocean as well as members of the The Canadian Childrens Opera Chorus! That is the children’s choir in the above photo, tweeted by Stephen Stohn. And yes, they are all wearing Degrassi caps!!

I am so excited to hear the new Degrassi theme song. They will be shooting the new intro video to go along with the theme in a few weeks.

Degrassi Music Guides

Ever wonder what goes into choosing the songs used on Degrassi? Much Music has the answer! They recently posted little descriptions from the Music Supervisors on how every song is chosen for the show. It looks like this is going to be a weekly thing, so keep checking back at MuchMusic.com for more!

One of my favourite songs in last week’s episode was Peacock Dance, heard at the end when Adam is reading Fiona’s letter. Here’s what the Degrassi Music Supervisors had to say about that one:

Peacock Dance by The Smooth Maria
This is an epic track. Epic. We like to call this the “loose ends montage song”, but that doesn’t do it enough justice. The song marches along, steady, calmly, driving the emotion behind Adam reading Fiona’s letter, it pounds like a heartbeat and you can feel how excited and terrified he is to be reading it. The beautiful shots of Dave and Sadie, Anya waiting at the restaurant, Fiona accepting her faults, culminating in a bright, innocent, youthful smile from Adam makes for yet another memorable Degrassi moment and song.

Soundspeed Showcase Report

Have you been to Whatever it Takes recently? Degrassi-Fans.com blogger Ashley recently attended the Soundspeed showcase in Toronto and has since posted a full report of her experience! On the overall experience, Ashley writes:

Overall, I had a great time at the show. I wasn’t expecting the band sound like it did in a way. Their EP , and the preview clips don’t compare to when they perform live. If you EVER have the opportunity to see them live, go and see them! They are amazing live, and all of them are great entertainers, and really nice, down to earth guys.
