Interview with Degrassi’s favourite Mom, Ramona Milano!

Degrassi’s favourite Mom, Ramona Milano (Audra Torres) recently talked to TheMortonReport.com about upcoming storylines and her thoughts on Degrassi dealing with Adam’s storyline.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

“I have to say that I haven’t as yet been displeased with the way that Degrassi has handled any of the Torres family issues,” says Milano. “The transgender topic is hard for most people to understand, regardless of sexual orientation, and I don’t think that Degrassi is trying to make a point and bang anyone over the head with it. They’ve done a great job of letting it live and breathe through a very three-dimensional person who’s facing all aspects of such an extraordinary situation, good and bad, while surrounded by people who represent society as a whole.

Aislinn Paul: Snappy Answers to Silly Questions!

Aislinn Paul did a quick little interview with the TheTVAddict.com for a new segment called “Snappy Answers to Silly Questions”! She answered seven questions about her Degrassi cast members such as “Which cast member has the messiest dressing room?” and “Which cast member leads the most interesting off-camera life for the purposes of a reality TV show?”

Here’s what she had to say about which cast member she’d like to work with more:

“Oh… Shannon [Kook-Chun]. I would love to work with Shannon. He is so talented, his character is not in the show as much as we would like him to be because we love him so much as a person, we love him here more, and I’d just love to work with it would be so fun.”

Justin Kelly on Eclare vs. Cake

We are now getting into the swing of things Degrassians, and the cast have been doing interviews galore this week! The latest comes from Degrassi newbie Justin Kelly AKA Clare’s new love interest, Jake. The TV Addict posted this interview with him today, in which he talks about joining the show and his character’s relationship with Clare. He also mentions the ongoing Cake vs. Eclare shipper wars. Here is what he had to say about that:

Are you at all nervous about how the fandom will react to your character coming in between “eClare” and what do you think of “Cake?”
I love it. I think it’s great. Especially with the whole dynamic with “eClare,” I think the battle of the desserts is really something. I think that “eClare,” Eli and Clare together have built such an iconic TV relationship over the last season and to step into that, to be that other guy that breaks up “eClare,” I don’t believe that “eClare” fans are going to like them [Jake and Clare] off the top if they’’re keen on Eli. But at the same time Jake and Clare start to build their own bond throughout the season and we really see a change from where they meet back in the third episode to where they are now.

Will Jake have any storylines with characters aside from Clare?
It’s mostly Clare, but there is interaction with Eli through Clare being a mutual friend between us, we start to build our own weird relationship. And the stuff we’re shooting now, Jake starts to become buddies with Drew. I had a couple scenes with Luke [Drew] recently where we were shooting, it takes place in a [Redacted to avoid Spoilers!], so Drew and Jake become buddies over that time and I think that’s kind of in the works.

Sounds very interesting! Read the complete article at TheTVAddict.com!

Munro Chambers on Eclare: “It’s Complicated”

Munro Chambers spoke with The TV Addict recently on what the fans can expect in season 11. In the interview, Munro gives a few hints as to what will happen with Eli and Clare this season, as well as the differences between himself and Eli. Check out the full interview right here. Here is an excerpt on Eli and Clare’s future:

If Eli were to update his relationship status on Facebook with regards to Clare this season, what would it say?
I’m going to go with “It’s Complicated.”

Will fans be happy with the direction Eli and Clare take this season?
I don’t know! We’ve got some new characters coming this season who get in between… um… people. I don’t know. If you love “Eclare” you’re going to be on a tightrope and won’t know what’s going to happen, but I think it’s going to be interesting.

Degrassi Season 10 Finale Interview Roundup

There have been so many interviews and sneak peeks for the finale this week. I have resisted posting them, because I hate being spoiled and I hate spoiling it for everybody else. But a few interviews came out today that I thought were worth posting. One in particular is Ology’s exclusive interview with Aislinn Paul. The interview is quite detailed, and Aislinn talks about everything from S11 to what to expect with Eclare:

How’s Season 11 going?
We just started shooting… it’s going great! We have three new characters who are really mixing things up, and having so much fun with them! And things are running smoothly, which is really good.

Are you “involved” with any of these characters?
Well, there’s definitely some interaction with Clare and all the new characters, but… um… yes, one in particular!

Can you give us deets on them?
There’s Jake, who’s played by Justin Kelly, Imogen, who’s played by Christine Prosperi, and we’ve got Katie, played by Chloe Rose. They’re all really interesting characters, and we’re excited to see how

Very exciting! Read the full interview with Aislinn right here!

Also — In advance of the finale, I just want to say how amazing season 10 has been overall. Whether or not you enjoyed every storyline/character this season, nobody can deny that S10 is one of the most successful years for Degrassi. At this time last year, a lot of people were wondering how much longer Degrassi would continue. A lot of the old fans were moving on, and Degrassi’s future seemed uncertain. But with a change in format, a move to Much Music, and a bunch of new characters, Degrassi is bigger than ever! It’s been so great to see how much the Degrassi fandom has grown, with so many new fans just getting into the show for the first time. I support Degrassi, because I think it’s a good show with a good message. It has influenced my life in a big way, and I hope it does the same for all of you! I hope everyone enjoys the finale tonight!! Onto S11!

Linda Schuyler Responds to the Secret of Degrassi’s Longevity

Degrassi creator Linda Schuyler participated in The National Post’s Culture Club column this week. The topic was series longevity. With The Office entering its eighth season, the panel discusses why North American TV shows seem to last so long even after they have run their course. With Degrassi about to enter its 11th season this summer, Linda comments on the secret to its longevity:

Linda: As we head into our 11th season of Degrassi: The Next Generation, (and the 31st year of the franchise!) for me, the secret to longevity has been to have the courage to let characters grow, evolve and eventually leave the show. Our circumstances are somewhat unique, in as much as we have an environment that relies on characters growing each year, responding to each year’s hierarchy within the politics of school setting, and heading eventually to graduation. When our first group of characters graduated from Degrassi: The Next Generation, we were worried that we had audience loyalty to these characters and would need to find a way to keep them part of the show. To this end, we moved our first set of graduates into a shared house as they attended university. With our second tranche of grads we moved them into a university dorm. When our research came in, we found that these storylines were the least satisfying of all our storylines. We learnt, that for all our audience love our characters, they are tuning in for the high school experience and want stories grounded in that world. They look forward to a new crop of Grad Nines as a new school year begins and enjoy, in a bittersweet way, saying goodbye to their favourite grads. We have one added advantage that helps with longevity and that is, as we constantly repopulate the school, our audience is always renewing itself.

Linda also talks about other series she has worked on, and when it’s time to pull the plug. Check out the full discussion right here!

Drop The World Sneak Peek on MTV’s 10 On Top

Degrassi was mentioned on MTV’s 10 On Top this morning. They spoke with Aislinn and Charlotte, and also talked a little about new season 11 cast member Justin Kelly. It’s a cute segment, however it contains a major spoiler for this Friday’s finale episode. For some reason, MTV decided to show a clip of what is likely one of the last scenes (epicly lame if you ask me). DO NOT watch this video if you don’t want to be spoiled!!!

Degrassi Favourite Pat Mastroianni Discusses His Degrassi Days

It’s been a while since we heard from Pat Mastroianni AKA Degrassi favourite Joey Jeremiah. He recently broke his silence, speaking to the Australian press as well as participating in the ACMI’s Nineties Nostalgia Night. Tonight Pat will be doing a Q&A via Skype for the event in Australia. He also spoke about his time on Degrassi in a recent interview.

Pat starred as Joey Jeremiah for the entire run of Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High, and appeared in the first 5 seasons of TNG. Other than a couple of unconfirmed rumours, we were never really knew why Pat decided to leave Degrassi: TNG after its 5th season. In this recent interview, Pat explained “I’d had my fill of the show, and wanted to separate myself from it.” But he was still very excited to talk to his Australian fans!

Pat also discusses Degrassi’s more controversial storylines, such as the HIV/AIDS episodes. ”In Canada, and probably Australia, we have a more liberal, open mindedness. We realised that half our audiences were kids and the other half were their parents watching with them,” Mastroianni says. ”We knew the audience was savvy and could take something positive from it.”

Stephen Stohn Talks Spin-Off, New Characters, and More

Stephen Stohn gave a very interesting and insightful interview with The Star Scoop recently. He answered A LOT of ongoing questions the fans have. Firstly, he mentions that season 11 hasn’t technically been picked up by the networks yet, but it’s very likely that it will happen (no surprise there). He also talks about his favourite storylines, a new energy on set, and the possibility of any old characters coming back. AND we now know that the characters they are casting now (see these descriptions) are not the new grade 9’s expected to be introduced in the 2nd half of season 11. The new grade 9 class will be cast later, assuming season 11 moves forward. Finally, a big question on the minds of many fans has been this never ending talk of a spin-off. There have been Degrassi spin-off rumours since season 6. Here’s the latest from Stephen Stohn himself:

THE STAR SCOOP:
We’ve heard rumblings about a Degrassi spin off – what is the status (is this true?) and who might be included?

STEPHEN STOHN:
We’re working on the new show with the working title Highlands Gardens. It might or might not be a Degrassi spin-off — we’re still deciding. One of the characters could be a Degrassi character, although it could work not being a Degrassi character also, so we’re developing the show with both possibilities in mind. Shooting will be in August/September, so we’ll have had to make up our minds by then!

Exclusive Annie Clark Interview: Fashion, Fans, and Future Plans!

Love is in the air on Degrassi this season! Our favourite show returns this Friday Feb. 11th with an all new Valentines Day themed episode. Focusing on the popular Fiona/Adam relationship, “When Love Takes Over” follows Adam’s connection with Fiona and his discovery of her drinking habits. Degrassi-Fans.com was recently about to talk to Fiona herself – Annie Clark! Here is our exclusive interview with Annie, who fills us in on her favourite Degrassi characters, her amazing style, and more!

We’ve heard that you are a huge fan of Degrassi, and that you watched the show before you were cast as Fiona. Do you have a favourite character or favourite Degrassi storyline?

Yes! I was a big fan of the show before. Craig and Ellie were always my favourite characters. I also loved the Rick – Jimmy storyline. I know it’s cliché but it really was one of the best storylines!

You’ve been playing Fiona for the past two years, and during that time she’s experienced a lot of ups and downs. Where do you see Fiona in the future? What do you think she will do after she graduates?

Hopefully in the future Fiona will settle down a bit, and stop seeking attention in all the wrong ways. I think after she graduates she will do something in fashion or move to Europe. Maybe editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia…

The Star Scoop Interviews Jordan Todosey

We are almost 1 week away from new Degrassi episodes, and the promotion train has already begun! Today, The Star Scoop posted their new interview with Jordan Todosey. Also, I’ve got an exclusive interview with Annie Clark coming soon! That will likely be posted this Saturday, so keep checking back!! In the meantime, here are some great quotes from Jordan’s latest interview:

THE STAR SCOOP:
Why do you think Adam has become such a popular character?

JORDAN TODOSEY:
I believe that most people have, at one time or another, experienced the feeling of being the odd one out. Adam is a relatable character with a strong spirit that lives in a society of peer pressures and conformities. I’ve got to admit as well that he’s a pretty cool guy!

THE STAR SCOOP:
Please give us your thoughts on “Fadam” (Fiona/Adam). We’re not the only ones who like this pairing…

JORDAN TODOSEY:
They both have experienced societal pressure, whether it is from their family or their friends. I think they find some kind of comfort and understanding in each other. They also look pretty cute together – don’t they?

Stefan Brogren Weighs in on ‘Skins’ Controversy

Degrassi producer/director/actor Stefan Brogren was recently part of a panel discussion with The National Post talking about the controversy surrounding the North American remake of the hit British teen drama Skins. While the North American version is getting mixed reviews, the British version is definitely popular amongst Degrassi fans. Like Degrassi, Skins is known for pushing boundaries and dealing with difficult subject matter. However, with its debut on American soil, groups have called Skins “dangerous” and compared it to child pornography. Here is some of what Stefan had to say on the topic:

Stefan: I might be a little biased on this subject for a couple reasons. One: I really liked the U.K. version of the show. I think they pushed the subject matter in a way that teens respond to. Two: Samir Rehem, who directed several episodes of the U.S. Skins, also happens to be one of my best friends — so I have to like it. Three: I work on a show that has always tried to push the boundaries of teen television. Yeah, we like to show moral consequences. If one of our characters has sex, half the time they’re going to pay for it with a nice case of gonorrhea. But I can appreciate a teen show like Skins showing the ugly side of teendom — without consequences. Young audiences are smarter than we give them credit for … and I’m tired of Gossip Girl.
