I said that I was going to stop posting until Friday, because there are spoilers for the finale everywhere (seriously, I feel like we’ve seen the entire episode already). They spoke primarily about their support for Kids Help Phone, but they also mentioned the Degrassi season 10 finale “Drop The World.” Check out the interview in the video above. Much Music needs to link their blog entries on the Degrassi page, because this was posted 3 days ago and I hadn’t even seen it yet!

According to Much Music, we now have a date for when season 11 will premiere: July 18th!! Start planning now everyone, because I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some kind of premiere/meet and greet event around that time as well. Also, with 7 weeks of episodes, that means that we will likely see new episodes until Sept. 1st. Here is what Much Music had to say:

Do I even need to say anymore? Hell yeah I do! Not only is another season heading into production, but it’s returning this summer! And once again, Degrassi will air on Monday, and on Tuesday, and on – hell, all the days up to Thursday! Four nights a week…for SEVEN WEEKS LONG! And we can even tell you when it’s coming back: July 18th! Mark that date on your calendar from now!

No confirmation from TeenNick yet, but I think we can assume that the two networks will premiere new episodes at the same time as usual.

Much Music’s press release for season 11 came out this afternoon. The press release confirms what Stephen Stohn tweeted yesterday: another summer of the telenovela format and 3 new cast members. It also announces that the Monday to Friday summer format will be extended to 7 weeks. This is 1 week longer than season 10 (which was only 6 weeks long). Therefore, there will likely be 28 new episodes airing this summer. This is what the press release said:

Toronto, ON (March 25, 2011) – After three decades of groundbreaking and controversial storylines, MuchMusic’s #1 hit show DEGRASSI returns for an impressive 11th season this summer. Fans get their daily DEGRASSI fix as the show premieres for the second year in the highly successful Monday to Friday telenovela format, this year extending that run to seven weeks. With the enrolment of three new students and storylines that push the envelope even further with social topics facing teens today, DEGRASSI is guaranteed to set the bar higher than ever. Production for Season 11 has already begun in Toronto.

Joining DEGRASSI this season is the charming heartthrob Jake Martin (Justin Kelly), who tells it like it is and tries not to break too many hearts in the process. New student Katie Matlin (Chloe Rose) is a fresh-faced athlete who plays hard on the field but is soft when it comes to matters of the heart. Fun and energetic Imogen Moreno (Cristine Prosperi) is anything but boring, but she constantly fears her one, big secret could be exposed to the entire school.

Tonight is the premiere of “Jesus Etc. Part 2”! To get you ready, check out the Much Music Preview Pictures that were posted yesterday. Last year they won a walk on role on Degrassi, and it looks like we’ll be seeing them in one of the KC/Jenna scenes in tonight’s episode. Ever wonder what goes into choosing the songs used on Degrassi? Much Music has the answer! They recently posted little descriptions from the Music Supervisors on how every song is chosen for the show. It looks like this is going to be a weekly thing, so keep checking back at MuchMusic.com for more!

One of my favourite songs in last week’s episode was Peacock Dance, heard at the end when Adam is reading Fiona’s letter. Here’s what the Degrassi Music Supervisors had to say about that one:

Peacock Dance by The Smooth Maria
This is an epic track. Epic. We like to call this the “loose ends montage song”, but that doesn’t do it enough justice. The song marches along, steady, calmly, driving the emotion behind Adam reading Fiona’s letter, it pounds like a heartbeat and you can feel how excited and terrified he is to be reading it. The beautiful shots of Dave and Sadie, Anya waiting at the restaurant, Fiona accepting her faults, culminating in a bright, innocent, youthful smile from Adam makes for yet another memorable Degrassi moment and song.
