Degrassi Favourite Pat Mastroianni Discusses His Degrassi Days

It’s been a while since we heard from Pat Mastroianni AKA Degrassi favourite Joey Jeremiah. He recently broke his silence, speaking to the Australian press as well as participating in the ACMI’s Nineties Nostalgia Night. Tonight Pat will be doing a Q&A via Skype for the event in Australia. He also spoke about his time on Degrassi in a recent interview.

Pat starred as Joey Jeremiah for the entire run of Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High, and appeared in the first 5 seasons of TNG. Other than a couple of unconfirmed rumours, we were never really knew why Pat decided to leave Degrassi: TNG after its 5th season. In this recent interview, Pat explained “I’d had my fill of the show, and wanted to separate myself from it.” But he was still very excited to talk to his Australian fans!

Pat also discusses Degrassi’s more controversial storylines, such as the HIV/AIDS episodes. ”In Canada, and probably Australia, we have a more liberal, open mindedness. We realised that half our audiences were kids and the other half were their parents watching with them,” Mastroianni says. ”We knew the audience was savvy and could take something positive from it.”

Degrassi – 1 of the 10 Best Canadian TV Shows

In honour of the Gemini Award nominations earlier this week, Toronto Life published a list of the “10 Best Canadian TV Shows of the Past 25 Years.” As expected, Degrassi made the list – with Degrassi Junior High taking the top spot!! Of course we would accept no less for Degrassi! Here’s what the article had to say:

#1. Degrassi Jr. High
All versions of the decades-spanning real-teen drama would make our top 25, but in the interest of whittling, we’re gonna go with Jr. High. It’s the classic Zit Remedy Era, back when Joey Jeremiah still had hair and Wheels had yet to lose his innocence in a hitchhiking episode gone wrong. (Is there any other kind?)

Amanda Stepto & Stacie Mistysyn Developing TV Series

Amanda Stepto & Stacie Mistysyn, better known as Spike & Caitlin from Degrassi Junior High, are in Edmonton this weekend for a DJ gig. The event takes place at Pawn Shop on Whyte Avenue on Saturday. For more information check out this article with all the details.

Towards the end of the article Stacie mentions that they are in the process of creating a new TV series! “Amanda and I have been developing a TV dramedy series,” she said. “We have an excellent writer and producers working with us, so hopefully it will be a reality soon.” We’ve heard them talk about this TV series in the past, but this is the first time they’ve mentioned having producers and a writer on board. Good luck to them!

Stacie and Amanda Talk DJing

Stacie and Amanda (or DJ Demanda and DJ Mistylicious as they are now called lol) have been doing very well DJing their 80’s parties across Canada. They’re hosting a party in Whistler this weekend and did an interview discussing their DJing skills, their connection to Degrassi, and their surprise at how successful their parties have been. Here’s an excerpt from this article:

“DJing isn’t all we’re doing right now, it’s just kind of a hobby that we’ve just gotten more and more into as it’s developed because it’s so fun,” Mistysyn said with a laugh. “…The DJing just kind of grew out of our love for ’80s music.”
