‘Harriet the Spy’ World Premiere

“Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars” featuring Melinda Shankar and Aislinn Paul will be premiering on the Disney Channel March 26th at 8pm ET. The film is a contemporary twist on the iconic character and stars Jennifer Stone as Harriet.

Willing to do whatever it takes to earn the coveted position, Harriet competes against her arch nemesis, popular student Marion Hawthorne, in a month-long blog war to win her classmates support. When Harriet’s father, movie producer Roger Welsch, signs on to produce the sequel to the hottest teen-musical, “Spy High,” she knows her inside scoop will be a perfect opportunity to win over her classmates.

Melinda plays a character named Janie, and Aislinn plays Beth Ellen.

Season 10 to Have 48 Episodes

In this interview with Zack Taylor, Melinda Shankar announces that season 10 will have 48 episodes! That is huge number of episodes for one season, and might explain why we’ve heard reports of season 10 premiering in the summer. Melinda also confirms that season 10 will begin filming next month.

Also on Twitter today Stephen Stohn confirmed that each episode of season 10 will be a half hour long and will take these characters through an entire school year.

Melinda Shankar In a New Disney Movie

For the past few weeks she’s been teasing us on Twitter, and now Melinda Shankar (Alli on Degrassi) has finally confirmed that she will be appearing in the new Disney TV movie “Harriet the Spy.” The film stars Jennifer Stone and is based on the classic kids book series. It will be filmed in Hamilton, Ontario. Melinda plays Janie, Harriet’s best friend. Aislinn Paul (Clare on Degrassi) is also set to appear in the film.

Evan Williams in a New Movie

Degrassi actor Evan Williams is starring in a new made-for-TV movie called “The National Tree.” In the movie, Evan plays a teenager who wins a national tree contest and convinces his father to move the tree to Washington D.C. The movie focuses on a father-son cross country trip. “The National Tree” premieres Nov. 28th on the Hallmark Channel and will repeat a few times over Thanksgiving weekend.

In other movie news, Melinda Shankar is currently in New York filming a new movie. As well, Drake told Billboard magazine that he is still interested in acting and would like to do a movie with his friend Jamie Foxx.

Degrassi Cast at the “Worldwide Day of Play”

On Sept. 26th, Nickelodeon will be hosting its annual “Worldwide Day of Play” in which the network’s TV channels and websites will go off the air for 3 hours. During that time viewers are encouraged to get outside and have some fun. In New York, a 4K race will be held to coincide with the event for its NYC RBC Race for the Kids. It will feature appearances from Degrassi cast members Melinda Shankar and Sam Earle, and will help raise money for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of NYC. For more information click here.

A new trailer has now appeared online Melinda Shankar’s new TV series “How to be Indie.” Melinda plays the title character “Indie,” who is a girl trying to fit in at school, but with traditional parents. Decode Entertainment (the production company) posted the trailer at their official website along with this description:

So you’re different. Your name is Indie (“Indira” to your parents), you’re 13 and your only job is to grow up. Sounds simple enough, but things get tricky when you’re trying to blend in at school but your traditional parents are pretty fond of their old-school values … So what’s a girl to do? Try to make it work in her own unique way.
