Chloe Rose at the Toronto International Film Festival

Congratulations to current Degrassi cast member Chloe Rose!

Today Chloe’s new film The Lesser Blessed premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film, which is based on the critically acclaimed novel, follows a teenager living in a remote area of the Northwest Territories grappling with the challenges of growing up. Chloe plays the popular girl – Juliet Hope – who the main character has a crush on.

Chloe attended the premiere, and looked stunning in this regal black halter dress. She also attended the Guess Portrait Studio, and took some gorgeous pictures while there. Check out a complete album of Chloe at TIFF in our gallery!

Some of you may have also noticed that former Degrassi star Nina Dobrev has been making the rounds at TIFF this week for the premiere of her new film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. ‘Perks’ will be in theatres later this month!

Exclusive: Degrassi Season 12 Premiere

What a night! (No Degrassi High pun intended)

Degrassi’s annual premiere party took place at Much Music HQ in Toronto last night, and the event did not disappoint! Hundreds of fans showed up to meet their favourite Degrassi cast members and watch the season premiere on a big screen in the parking lot. They lined up for hours in the hot weather to be first to catch a glimpse of the Degrassi stars.

The premiere party got underway at 6pm with a special episode of New Music Live. Various cast members were interviewed by Much Music VJ’s around the parking lot, and they talked a lot about the juicy storylines that we are all looking forward to this season! Additionally, a few fans were asked to share their stories about how the characters on Degrassi have inspired them and changed their lives. It was so rewarding to hear about the impact that the show has on its young audience.

After NML, the cast took pictures with fans at a special photo wall and also signed autographs at the nearby Virgin Mobile store. A special live stream was set up on MuchMusic.com so that Degrassians who were not able to attend the event could watch all of the excitement from home. I was also lucky enough to interview a few Degrassi cast members, and those exclusive clips will be uploaded over the next few weeks. Ever wonder how often the cast searches themselves on Tumblr? Keep checking Degrassi Online to find out!

The night ended with a screening of the season premiere in the Much Music parking lot. Fans brought lawn chairs and blankets and watched the episode together. It’s always so exciting to watch Degrassi with a group of people who are going to gasp and cheer at every moment. I have so much love for our Degrassi community!

Throughout the evening, I took lots of pictures of our gorgeous cast as well as a few enthusiastic fans. You can view them all in our gallery!

Degrassi Cast at the Much Music Video Awards

The Much Music Video Awards took place in Toronto last night, and various Degrassi cast members were there! Munro Chambers, Christine Prosperi, Jessica Tyler, Luke Bilyk, Jahmil French, and Alicia Josipovic were there representing the current cast, as well as Degrassi alumnus like Cassie Steele and Shenae Grimes.

Munro presented an award to Justin Bieber towards the end of the evening. He also answered some questions in the press room (see above video), and talked about aspiring to follow in Ryan Gosling’s footsteps, what it’s like to be called a “sex symbol,” and what we can expect from Eli in season 12.

Keep checking back, because we will update as soon as more pictures and video of our Degrassi cast at the MMVA’s are released.

Degrassi Cast to Appear at the MMVA’s

The Much Music Video Awards are less than 2 weeks away, and if you aren’t already excited to see Kelly Clarkson, LMFAO, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and Darren Criss, Degrassians will be excited for this.

Much Music announced that Degrassi’s own Munro Chambers will be one of the presenters this year, along with Degrassi alumnus Shenae Grimes. We are expecting other Degrassi cast members to also attend (they are there almost every year). A few of them have confirmed via Twitter that they will be there, so be sure to keep an eye out for the cast during the Red Carpet Special.

The MMVA’s are taking place Sunday, June 17th. You can watch it all on Much Music, with the award show beginning at 9:00 p.m. For more information on the MMVA’s, check out their official website.

Degrassi Cast at the GLAAD Awards

The GLAAD Media Awards took place in San Francisco this past weekend, and a few of our Degrassians were in attendance. Degrassi cast members Annie Clark and Jordan Todosey were there, along with Degrassi co-creator and executive producer Linda Schuyler. All three of them looked stunning as they posed for photos on the red carpet. During the ceremony, Degrassi lost the Outstanding Drama Series award to Grey’s Anatomy. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the entire Degrassi community has a lot to be proud of.

Degrassi Shoot Experience!

On May 14, Epitome Pictures (Degrassi) invited fans to participate in a unique filming experience at Canlan Ice Sports.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

My friend Amy and I went to the Degrassi shoot yesterday and it was an awesome experience being an extra! It was Amy’s first Degrassi event, so I think I was even more excited for her that we were there! We got there around 11:30, and waited in line until they let all of us in. I was surprised at how many people were there already! When we were waiting in line to get into the arena, we saw Krista and I talked to her for a bit. Around noon, they started to let people in and we went and went to our seats in the arena- which was thankfully cold since all of us were wearing winter clothes!

There were a lot of cast members there (Annie Clark, Munro Chambers, Lyle O’Donohoe, Olivia Scriven, Chloe Rose, Justin Kelly, Shanice Banton, Demetrius Joyette, Craig Arnold and Dylan Everett) and all they showed up at different points during the day. I don’t even think Munro or Annie were filming, but it was nice to see they came out! Plus, I’m sure Munro wanted to skate on the ice- which he did!

I didn’t take any pictures during the day, but I’ve seen some pictures floating around the Internet- especially Tumblr!

Throughout the day, Annie and Munro would come out and give out prizes (through the raffle tickets). Some of the prizes were signed scripts, a signed Degrassi poster, a TeenNick mini ping pong table, Degrassi DVDs and the grand prize- a day at the Degrassi set with a walk on role! Also, people from the crew came around in the audience and were giving out Degrassi Soundtracks!

I won’t say anything about what happened during filming- but there’s something very surprising that happens! I don’t want to spoil anyone, but I was definitely shocked!

It was really cool to see how Degrassi was shot. I definitely didn’t know that it took so many takes and shots to get the scene just right! I knew that there was a lot of work that went into the show, but it was interesting to see how everything was put together!

Even if we didn’t get to see any of the cast members, it was still an awesome experience, but towards the end of the shoot, I asked Krista if anyone was going to come out, so that my friend could meet someone from the cast. She asked who Amy’s favourite was (since I mentioned that it was Amy’s first Degrassi event) and Amy said Justin Kelly. She said she’d see where Justin was at with filming and would see if she could possibly bring him over. We weren’t really expecting anything, since we knew that it’d probably been a long day for him (and everyone), but after Justin was finished filming she brought him over to see us so we could get pictures with him, which was the nicest thing ever! I probably thanked Krista a million times- she probably thinks I’m nuts, and I don’t even know if she remembers my name. We also met Munro too and my friend got a picture with him.

After a long and exciting day, we headed home!

I just want to thank Epitome for giving fans the opportunity to participate in the filming of Degrassi! It’s definitely something that doesn’t happen everyday and I’m glad that I was able to be apart of it.

If anyone has any other questions about the day (since this was a very brief summary), you can tweet me @ashleyshimski

Degrassi stars Cassie Steele and Annie Clark were both at the Juno Awards last night in Ottawa. They were there to present the Dance Recording of the Year award along with Francois Arnaud from The Borgias. Last night for the season premiere, Ashley and myself were given the opportunity to hang out at the Much Music studio while they were filming the live hits. We got to meet Aislinn, Cristine, and Lauren Toyota as well as watch the episode live with them. We also got to watch them film the live hits during the commercial breaks.

It was so much fun to meet everybody! They were just as nice as you would expect. Aislinn and Cristine are definitely Degrassi fans in their own right! Ashley and I will tell you all about it in next week’s episode of Degrassi Talks (stay tuned)!

“Party With Degrassi” Screening and M&G – Montclair, NJ – 2/18/12

Hey all! Degrassi Dish aka Bianca here reporting exclusively for Degrassi Online on the FABULOUS “Party With Degrassi” event at Montclair, New Jersey. Being a person who is NO stranger to TeenNick (or The-N for you old-schoolers), I knew right off the bat that an event like this was going to blow my expectations out of the water and it truly did just that.

I was lucky enough to snag a few VIP passes through my job who deals directly with Nickelodeon and TeenNick. This meant no crowds, no lines, and an exclusive meet and greet with the cast before the screen and Q&A. When we arrived we were directed to our parking spot right outside of the theater. We came close to hitting a few fangirls (SORRY!) as the line was right along the sidewalk where we parked. Inside the theater was DECKED out to the NINES. They had various booths where you could create your own Degrassi-ified t-shirts, spin a wheel to win prizes, and a digital green screen to take pictures. They had free popcorn, pretzels, candy and even “mocktails” named after your favorite Degrassi character – I tried the “Eclare on the Rocks”myself.

After taking the entire theater in and it was time to wait on line to meet the cast. We were second in line behind another VIP via Nickelodeon and in front of the Radio Winners who were needless to say enthusiastic! That’s where I met Shanene who is Mindy’s new best friend. 🙂 We were taken backstage and THERE they WERE, sitting in a row ready to do some meeting and greeting. After I had a mini-heart attack it was my turn to meet them and let me tell you they were some of the SWEETEST most down to EARTH people you have ever met. Usually I’m a complete wreck when meeting celebrities, and yes I’ll admit I was nervous, but when you’re greeted with such kindness that type of nervousness just goes away and normal conversation goes on. Luckily since I was one of the first to meet them I had a bit of extra time to chat. Told them how much I love the show and how much their work is so appreciated. The best part was that I had time to explain to them who I was and the twitter I run as well as Erin’s new site re-launch of Degrassi-Online.com. What blew my mind was that they knew who I was and what Degrassi Talks was.

After meeting them we were taken to our seats where we waited for the show to start. Before the screening they brought out the cast for a little intro and then the show began. Opinions about the show.. let’s just say we’ll save that for a Degrassi Talks. After they brought back the cast out for Q&A. I will leave the video to explain how THAT went down. Just a few highlights: Blart, Lord of the Rings, Jahmil dancing, Munro “take off your pants”, and Mindy’s 20th birthday cake!

It was a great day and very reminiscent of the Ultimate Degrassi Party back in 2006 (holy moley 2006?!??!). We were just glad we could have been apart of it and very thankful for TeenNick for hosting such a well organized and free event for the fans. Goes to show how passionate the US fans are and that we are out there in VERY large numbers. I can’t WAIT to do it again.

Check out my 2 part video of the entire Q&A portion as well as all the pictures I took in the gallery!

Jake Epstein Stars in ‘American Idiot’

Degrassi alumnus Jake Epstein has been busy with a successful theatre career lately, starring in the Toronto production of Billy Elliot last summer as well as the tour of Spring Awakening. Now he is starring in the North American tour of American Idiot – the Tony Award winning musical based on the famous 2004 Green Day album.

In the musical, Jake plays one of the main characters, Will, who feels left behind when his two friends leave for the city. The story is about these three friends, whose lives go in different directions as they search for meaning in a post-9/11 world.

In an interview with CTV.ca, Jake explained why he identified with this character: “I went to Los Angeles earlier this year … to audition for TV shows and be a huge star, or whatever that means, and I didn’t know anyone and I sat pretty much on my couch for the entire time, waiting for my phone to ring — and that was when I had my ‘American Idiot’ audition … It came right around that time and I really related to the guy that didn’t know what the hell he was supposed to be doing with his life, that was sitting on a couch. So I think about that a lot.

The show just wrapped up its time in Toronto, but will be in Detroit, Boston, Raleigh, Seattle and more. For complete dates and ticket info, visit AmericanIdiottheMusical.com.
