Degrassi’s season 12 gallery photoshoot took place today, and Twitter was all abuzz with speculation. Much Music tweeted the above picture of Aislinn Paul and Jahmil French from the photoshoot, with both of them looking adorable as always.

Various cast members were tweeting about the shoot today, including Lyle, Melinda, Chloe, among others. These photoshoots are notorious for giving away minor spoilers (who is have storylines with whom, which characters will be featured prominently in the season, etc.) I can’t wait to see the pictures! They will most likely be released close to the season 12 premiere.

In addition to the gallery shoot, Degrassi was filming it’s summer season promotional trailer yesterday. This year, the trailer is directed by Randall Thorne, who has been tweeting details about it. Based on what he has said, it sounds like this promo is going to be very intense. It will likely be along the same lines as season 10’s Shark in the Water video and season 11’s Now or Never trailer.

Attention Toronto-area Degrassi fans! If you’re like me, it’s probably been a dream of yours to be on Degrassi. Now Epitome is giving you that opportunity!

Degrassi is looking for extras to be in an upcoming season 12 episode, and they are inviting fans of the show to participate. This is the first time that Degrassi has used fans as extras, so it is definitely an exciting opportunity! In addition to being a part the scene, the cast and crew will be on hand to entertain and give away some awesome prizes. In fact, a lucky fan will win a walk-on appearance on the Degrassi set later this summer!

If you’d like to volunteer yourself, they are asking that you email rsvpdegrassishoot@gmail.com and include your name, age, phone #, and the number of people who are coming with you. They are asking for people of all ages, so feel free to bring friends, parents, etc. They will be responding to your email with further details. The shoot will be taking place on Monday, May 14th on location at Canlan Ice Sports at York University.

This week’s Entertainment Weekly includes a small blurb on Degrassi with some interesting information! According to the mag, Holly J. will appear in the last 2 episodes of season 11. They also give away the names and ages of season 12’s new character. The short article draws attention to Degrassi’s 12th season, which will also include its 300th episode.

“Most teen series struggle as their lead actors age, but EW has learned that TeenNick has just begun production on the 12th(!) season of Degrassi, which will premiere this summer and contian the show’s 300th episode. The secret to the Canadian drama’s success: allowing its high school seniors to graduate and disappear instead of following them into the AARP. To that end, Degrassi will introduce four new characters – Campbell (grade 10), Mike (grade 12), and siblings Luke and Becky (grade 11). But before that, season 11 – which airs Fridays at 9 p.m. – will wrap up with the return of a fan favourite. Recent grad Holly J (Charlotte Arnold) drops in for the final two episodes (May 11 and 18) to help her best friend, Fiona (Annie Clark) with relationship and family troubles.”

Degrassi Executive producer Stephen Stohn and former lead cast member Miriam McDonald share a tweet exchange that could potentially reveal a future minisode plot for Season 12. Miriam played Emma Nelson on the show from Season One to Season Nine. Twitter is already buzzing with speculation of the plot point for her character, with confirmation of the demise of her exiting relationship with Spinner being the number one suggestion. Many fans have been calling for a cameo of notable former cast members and it seems that mini episodes are the perfect way to do it.

As the last episodes of season 11 are airing on television, production for season 12 has just gotten underway. Today the cast had their first read through of the year. Thanks to Stephen Stohn, we have some new information about what we can expect next season.

Stephen tweeted a few pictures from the read through today, including the image above. He also tweeted the names of the first 4 episodes, which are as follows: Come As You Are Part 1 & 2 and Walking On Broken Glass Part 1 & 2.

But perhaps the most exciting info we got today was what appears to be the names of 3 new cast members. Stephen tweeted “welcome to Degrassi” to @dylanevz (Dylan Everett), @sarahfisher28 (Sarah Fisher), and @slsjoyette (Demetrius Joyette). It’s always great to see a new face. Welcome to the Degrassi family!

In case you were wondering if Degrassi was going to come to an end anytime soon… this should calm your fears. Stephen Stohn announced on Twitter today that Much Music has picked up Degrassi for a 12th season. This is remarkable, given the fact that season 11 hasn’t even premiered yet. Season 12 likely wont begin filming until the year 2012. As Stephen mentioned on Twitter, I dont think I can remember a time a show was picked up this far in advance. We. So. Excited!
