“Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars” featuring Melinda Shankar and Aislinn Paul will be premiering on the Disney Channel March 26th at 8pm ET. The film is a contemporary twist on the iconic character and stars Jennifer Stone as Harriet.

Willing to do whatever it takes to earn the coveted position, Harriet competes against her arch nemesis, popular student Marion Hawthorne, in a month-long blog war to win her classmates support. When Harriet’s father, movie producer Roger Welsch, signs on to produce the sequel to the hottest teen-musical, “Spy High,” she knows her inside scoop will be a perfect opportunity to win over her classmates.

Melinda plays a character named Janie, and Aislinn plays Beth Ellen.

Dalmar Abuzied and Charlotte Arnold lended their support to ACTRA’s fight to keep Canadian programming on the air yesterday. The two Degrassi stars attended a rally at Parliament Hill in Ottawa alongside other well known Canadian actors from shows such as The Border and Little Mosque on the Prairie. The CRTC (regulator of Canadian content) has just launched hearings on the future of broadcasting in Canada. Performers from across Canada are calling on the CRTC to put Canadian programming first. According to the press release from ACTRA, last year Canadian networks “spent $740 million on U.S. and foreign programming and just $54 million on Canadian English-language drama.” Click here to read the entire press release and find out more.

For the past few weeks she’s been teasing us on Twitter, and now Melinda Shankar (Alli on Degrassi) has finally confirmed that she will be appearing in the new Disney TV movie “Harriet the Spy.” The film stars Jennifer Stone and is based on the classic kids book series. It will be filmed in Hamilton, Ontario. Melinda plays Janie, Harriet’s best friend. Aislinn Paul (Clare on Degrassi) is also set to appear in the film.

The cast and crew of Degrassi have just arrived in New York for filming of season 9’s TV movie! Most of the movie was shot in Toronto, but some key scenes will be filmed in New York where the movie takes place. They will be there for a few days, which are the last days of filming season 9.

No word yet on where they are filming or if they will be making an public appearances in the area.

Degrassi actor Evan Williams is starring in a new made-for-TV movie called “The National Tree.” In the movie, Evan plays a teenager who wins a national tree contest and convinces his father to move the tree to Washington D.C. The movie focuses on a father-son cross country trip. “The National Tree” premieres Nov. 28th on the Hallmark Channel and will repeat a few times over Thanksgiving weekend.

In other movie news, Melinda Shankar is currently in New York filming a new movie. As well, Drake told Billboard magazine that he is still interested in acting and would like to do a movie with his friend Jamie Foxx.

They’ve traveled the world, they’re worked with Craig Kielburger when he made his cameo on Degrassi, and once again our cast will be appearing at We Day 2009. We Day is Free the Children’s annual event. This year it will take place on Sept. 29th in Vancouver and Oct. 5th in Toronto. Thousands of teenagers from across Canada will attend one of the two events where they will listen to speakers and learn how they can change the world. The Degrassi cast has been there for the past 2 years, and this year is no exception. They will be speaking at both the Vancouver and Toronto events this year.

We Day will be streamed live online and to classrooms across Canada. On Sept. 29th in Vancouver the Degrassi cast is scheduled to speak at 10:49am (Pacific Time), and in Toronto on Oct. 5th they are on at 10:40am (Eastern Time). Check out the We Day website for all the details on times, live streams, and how you can get involved! You can also go to Freethechildren.com and download an official guide for watching the event, with information on all the speakers and when they will be on stage.

On Sept. 26th, Nickelodeon will be hosting its annual “Worldwide Day of Play” in which the network’s TV channels and websites will go off the air for 3 hours. During that time viewers are encouraged to get outside and have some fun. In New York, a 4K race will be held to coincide with the event for its NYC RBC Race for the Kids. It will feature appearances from Degrassi cast members Melinda Shankar and Sam Earle, and will help raise money for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of NYC. For more information click here.
