New Article on Season 10

Check out this new article on season 10 from The Canadian Press, detailing season 10’s unusual summer schedule:

TORONTO — Fans of “Degrassi” will get a daily dose of the series when the 10th season debuts this summer.

The teen drama plans to air 24 episodes four nights a week in July and August before returning to a weekly schedule in September.

Producer and actor Stefan Brogren says it’s an experiment that’ll see twice the number of shows this year.

Brogren, whose character Mr. Simpson returns as school principal, says it also means longer storylines and more cliffhangers.

New cast members include Jordan Todosey of “Life With Derek,” Munro Chambers, Luke Bilyk and Alicia Josipovic.

Degrassi Season 10 Moves to Telenovela Format

TeenNick announced recently that the plan for Degrassi Season 10 is to test out a telenovela format. A telenovela is essentially a primetime soap opera. The network will air half hour episodes Monday – Thursday for six weeks this summer. “We’re making additional episodes, a little more in the telenovela format, a little bit faster, cheaper and more efficient,” Nickelodeon president Zarghami said. Spanish language programs are known for the telenovela format, but US and Canadian networks have yet to tap into its success. To read the full article click here.

So do you guys think this is a good idea? More Degrassi episodes but cheaper quality? Are you excited about new episodes 4 days per week?

Degrassi Announcement Coming Soon

Stephen Stohn has been teasing us about a new, surprising, and exciting Degrassi season 10 on twitter for some time now. Within the next month or so, we will be getting a major announcement on the show. Today Stephen tweeted: “The Degrassi announcement will likely be made March 11th–maybe before then, but most likely then … and ps they may talk about the fact that this is the 10th Season of DNG, and the 30th anniversary of the first Kids of Degrassi St. on air … but THAT isn’t the main surprise either!” As many of you know, 2010 is the 30th anniversary of the Degrassi franchise. We can’t wait to find out what is to come for Degrassi in the future!

Stephen has already confirmed that (1) the announcement is not a date for the next movie (although that may be part of it), (2) it’s not about Degrassi getting cancelled (it’s a good surprise), and (3) it’s not about a spinoff (although they are thinking about it).

Exec: Degrassi 10 Will Not Be Hour Long

Stephen Stohn clarified his statement this morning about season 10 being “new and surprising.” Previously he tweeted that the surprises did not involve the storylines (although they would be surprising as well). Some fans speculated that the surprise was that Degrassi would be converted to a 1 hour format for each episode. This is not the case, even though some 2-part episodes will probably air together as usual.

Stephen Stohn: The new and surprising thing about Degrassi 10 is not that it will become hour-long… (it might be shown as hourlong sometimes, but that’s not the new and surprising thing I was talking about!)

I can’t wait to find out what this surprise is!
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all enjoyed opening presents this morning.

Season 10 will be “New and Surprising”

Degrassi executive producer Stephen Stohn tweeted a new teaser for season 10. The tweet was as follows:

I can’t wait to tell you about what will be happening for Degrassi Season 10… something new and surprising..

He then added:

(and I don’t mean the storylines, they will always be new and surprising I hope!)

It sounds very exciting! What could be “new and surprising” other than the storylines? Any ideas?

Open Discussion: Season 10

Season 10 has not yet been officially ordered by the networks, but we know that, in all likelihood, Degrassi will move into its 10 season (1 decade of TNG!) next fall. This morning, Executive Producer Stephen Stohn tweeted: “The writers just started brainstorming for Degrassi Season 10!!” Yesterday, Stefan Brogren tweeted a picture of the writers hard at work.

What I want to know is: what do you want to see happen in season 10?
I know that we are not yet half way through season 9, but based on what we’ve seen so far, what do you think should happen next? Do you have any storyline ideas? What issues do you want Degrassi to tackle? What characters do you want to see featured? What did you like/dislike about season 9? What should they improve on? Do you want to see another movie (Degrassi Goes… Vegas??)?

Leave a comment to this post and I will approve the most relevant ones. Then perhaps we will send our feedback to the Degrassi producers/writers who are always looking to hear from the fans.
