Degrassi Cast Answers Your Questions

Alloy.com has been collecting your questions to the Degrassi cast and now they have answered! Melinda, Sam, Ray, and Charlotte all answer questions on their favourite character, cast friendships, and more! Sam even gives this perfect analysis about his character KC:

What is your favorite thing about your character?

Sam: I love the fact that K.C. is always a little difficult to read. At first it seems like a quiet confidence surrounds him, but gradually we discover that this is partially a facade that distracts and allows him to bury certain profound vulnerabilities. It’s taking him a long time to get past all his self consciousness in order to figure out who he really is. He’s getting here, and I enjoy that complexity and the layers that are revealed in that journey.

Charlotte & Ray Talk to CosmoGirl

Ray and Charlotte have each done individual interviews with CosmoGirl which are viewable on their website. The interviews talk about the usual season 10 spoilers, but Ray & Charlotte also tell us a few inside stories and tidbits. Ray also gushes about Celine Dion:

CG: When did you start singing?
RA: My favorite singer, and you’re going to just cringe, is Celine Dion. A lot of Canadians don’t like Celine Dion, but I love her. My mom and I love Celine Dion. She was my first concert ever. Then I saw Titanic when I was really young and at my grade three talent show, I sang “My Heart Will Go On.” Actually, I went up with a puppet, and I did a comedy routine first. Then I sang “My Heart Will Go On” and won the talent show.

Gotta love him for that! Read Ray’s interview right here and Charlotte’s over here.

Landon Wants You to Respect His Eyebrows

A new interview with Landon Liboiron from The Montreal Gazette has surfaced. In the interview he discusses life on Degrassi and obsessive Degrassi fans. Isn’t it great to hear from Landon? Here’s what he had to say about reading comments online:

“There was a promo that they did last year to introduce the new characters,” says Liboiron, on the line from a coffee shop in Vancouver. “I was like ‘You know what? I’m going to read these comments and see what people are saying.’ The very first one I read was, ‘Eyebrow tweezers. Ever heard of them?’ I was like, ‘Screw this, I’m not reading anymore of these.’ I’m going to let it all sit out there and not worry about it. So I try to avoid reading it as much as possible.”

Laaandon the fans love your eyebrows!!

Charlotte & Ray Talk Season 10

Charlotte & Ray have been busy promoting Degrassi Takes Manhattan in New York this past week. One of their best interviews comes from Crushable.com. There they discuss everything from season 10 spoilers to Ray’s girlfriend to their biggest fans. It’s definitely a must read! Here is an excerpt:

How do you feel about leaving the show, now that you’re Grade 12s?

Raymond: I don’t want to. I don’t know if I’ll ever find another family like the one here at Degrassi. It’s not something I’m looking forward to, leaving this show, but all good things must come to an end.

Charlotte: Yeah, me either. I mean, obviously starting as a Grade 10 you knew that it was going to come to an end eventually. They tried the university story lines and I think it’s better to keep it in school, so we’re all pretty realistic. And last year, a bunch of our cast mates left – five last year…every year everyone’s used to leaving and new kids come in, and that’s one good thing about it. But the other good thing about Degrassi is you can always come back. Oftentimes they write characters back. And I’m sure we’ll visit and see everyone. It will be sad.

TeenNick Interviews Charlotte & Ray

TeenNick has posted a new interview with Charlotte Arnold and Ray Ablack discussing season 10. Here’s what they said we have to look forward to:

Charlotte: Ok, what I’m most passionate about in all the story lines is sort of the gender identity situation which, we can’t give too much away cause it’s gonna unfold the way it will. But that topic I was really excited that they tackled.
There’s also some other completely… like, even the most recent scripts we read, some of the areas they go to with Eli’s character? I had no idea what was going on with Eli’s character when I read the script. I was like, “Oh my god, this is something they sooo haven’t tackled before.”
And then just in general, everything has really been stepped up. Like right from the first episode — Fiona’s going through some really rough stuff. There’s a lot of tension… I mean, that’s why it’s called the Boiling Point; there’s tension building underneath the surface of every character. And it all comes to a head…

Sounds very exciting!! Read the full interview right here!

Aislinn Paul in OTM WebZine

Aislinn Paul recently appeared in OTM WebZine. The three page spread, which can be downloaded in the current issue here, includes brand new photos as well as an interview. Aislinn discusses her role on Degrassi as well as how she keeps a balance between acting and normal school life. She also talks about some of her really bad audition experiences, like in this excerpt:

Aislinn recalls one in particular: five kids were lined up for a non-speaking role, Aislinn being one of them. The casting director was asking them all a series of questions like, “What’s your favourite game? What do you like to do? What T.V. shows do you watch?” When he fired the questions at Aislinn, she honestly responded, “You ask way too many questions!”
The casting director took her outside, handed her over to her dad, and she obviously didn’t get the part.
“My parents have always told me that acting isn’t my life yet – it’s something I can do for fun,” says Aislinn, “so I learned not to take rejections like that to heart.”

To read the full interview and download all the pictures, all you have to do is download the Summer 2010 issue of the zine. Big thanks to the Aislinn thread at Fan Forum for this info!

Degrassi Kids Reflect on Drake

A new article in The National Post describes how the current Degrassi cast members are reacting to Drake’s success and album release. Here is a little excerpt:

“If you saw him on the street, what would you call him, Aubrey or Drake?” asks Degrassi cast member Melinda Shankar, who plays Alli Bhandari on the show, at a listening session of Thank Me Later in a classroom on the set of the long-running show.
“Aubrey, because that’s what I knew him as first,” responds Paula Brancati (Jane Vaughn on the show), who says she enjoyed performing with Graham, even if he spent much of the time glued to his BlackBerry.
