An Interview With Landon Liboiron

This week Back-Pocket Believers interviewed Landon Liboiron, the next cast member in their Degrassi interview series. In the interview, Landon talks about the (now controversial…) Holly J/Declan relationship and where he sees his character in the future. He also discusses his upcoming projects and other favourite storylines on Degrassi. Here is an excerpt:

Holly J and Declan had a long distance relationship in the beginning of the Boiling Point. What’s your opinion on long distance relationships?
Long distance relationships suck. It’s one of those things where the person you’re dating has to mean the world to you, that you’d be willing to basically wait until it can work. Or you work your ass off to make it work. I’m not a big supporter of the long distance thing, but if she (or he), hits you where it hurts, then I say try to make it work.

DJGENERAL Interviews Shannon Kook-Chun

The latest in DJGENERAL’S Degrassi interviews is with Shannon Kook-Chun. You can find the interview over at Degrassiblog.com. Shannon gives some really great answers to a lot of questions the fans were especially interested in. Here is an excerpt:

How is Degrassi different from the other acting jobs you’ve had in the past?
The family of the cast and crew is really different. I mean this show has 10 seasons under its belt not to mention the other 20 before that. It’s a family when you walk through that set. The crew is a mean green machine and lovely vibes and smiles and the cast is just a puppy pile of love. But when I’m not shooting I’ll be going from wardrobe, to producers’ offices and to publicity chatting away and distracting them. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this family.

TeenNick Interview with Jajube Mandiela

TeenNick posted a new interview with Jajube, and it’s all about one of my favourite subjects – hair! Jajube talks about her changing hair styles since being on Degrassi. Here is an excerpt:

People aren’t used to seeing unprocessed hair… so then it becomes ‘not the norm.’
Exactly. Which makes me so sad! Because actually, when I was considering cutting my hair, I was spending a lot of time watching TV and looking at different ads, because I need to know as an actor what I can do with my hair. And I wanted to see if anyone already has natural hair — especially short hair. And I was so disappointed! Not only actors but like singers, dancers, everyone processes their hair — even if it was short it was still processed.

New Linda Schuyler Interview

A new interview with Linda Schuyler has surfaced! The article mostly focuses on her upcoming high school reunion this weekend. But she also talks a little bit about Degrassi and what keeps her motivated. Here is an excerpt:

“I keep a book in my office called ‘Why I Do What I Do.’ It’s filled with letters and e-mails from kids and parents, which I find quite extraordinary,” she said.

One of the letters is from a parent who threw her son out of the house after learning he was gay. She watched a Degrassi program about a teenager struggling to come to terms with his homosexuality and picked up the phone to reconnect with her son.

“She said thank you so much for such a moving story. It made me pick up the phone and call my son after 10 years,” Schuyler said. “Whenever I doubt if I want to be my own boss anymore, I pick up this book and think ‘now I know why I do what I do, and I love it.'”

Ask Your Favourite Cast Member a Question!

Today I had the chance to Skype with Abby, Krista, and Stephanie from Epitome along with a bunch of other bloggers. We got to talk about so many different things to do with Degrassi, and we asked them a few questions. Nicole suggested that there should be a way in which fans can ask questions to the cast directly and the lovely people at Epitome/Much Music made that happen!

Go to Much Music’s blog right now and you can leave a comment with a question for any of the cast members! They are going to film each actor answering some of the best questions and then post the videos on the Much blog!! How awesome is that?

Also, a few other things to note: the characters will still be tweeting over break so keep following them! The Degrassi mobile app is going to come out around the same time as the new episodes start again in October. They are filming the cast in India, but they aren’t sure if it’s going to be made into a TV special yet or used in other ways. Another movie is still being dicussed; they aren’t sure if it will happen yet. And there is *talk* that Degrassi might be doing another mall tour or some more cast appearances like they were circa season 4.

Thanks to Epitome & the other bloggers – it was a lot of fun talking to you all!

Aislinn Paul Interview

Once again, Degrassi was in Soap Opera Weekly this week. This time the article featured an interview with Aislinn Paul. Talking about Eli & Clare in the finale, she said: “Just like the season is coming to a critical point, their relationship is coming to a critical point, and it gets really exciting … We try to resolve as much as we can, in order to keep the viewers happy, but obviously we leave some questions unanswered – just to leave a little suspense for the rest of the season.” Click on the image for a full size scan. Melinda Gives Us Some Back to School Advice

Shedoesthecity.com brings us a new interview with Melinda Shankar; this one all about her thoughts on Alli & back to school advice.

Your character just held her own against a guy who wasn’t interested in anything other than fooling around. On the show, you end up together. What’s your advice to girls dealing with this situation in real life?
I can’t stress self respect enough. The rule is simple; if you have respect for yourself, people (guys especially) won’t think that you’re “that girl” that they can fool around on and disrespect! Make sure the guy likes you for you. If you find out that he’s not in it for the right reasons, look forward to finding an amazing guy that will be perfect for you! Never settle for anyone less than you’re worth!

AfterElton Interviews Shannon Kook-Chun

Shannon Kook-Chun AKA Zane on Degrassi recently talked to AfterElton.com about his role on Degrassi, playing a gay teenager, the Zane/Riley relationship, his friendship with the cast, and more! It’s actually a really great in depth interview that should get you excited for tonight’s episode. Here’s a little excerpt on why he loves Zane:

AE: What appeals to you about Zane?
SK-C: He’s a lot more bold than I am. I’ve dealt with my own issues being a mixed race guy who comes from South Africa and moving around the world. I’ve dealt with issues of belonging and identity and what makes me who I am. You can often tailor what you are or should be by what’s around you and behave in what you think is the right or cool way to behave. I’ve dealt with that a lot and have my own questions about who I am and where I belong.

With Zane, he’s very okay with himself which I find a very hard thing to be. I don’t know that many people who are okay with themselves. What I love about him is the way he stood up to people who were ridiculing him and people who were telling him who he should and shouldn’t be. I’ve dealt a lot with that myself, but I’ve been in situations where I haven’t handled it as well. And I just really admire the way he stood up for himself.

Luke Bilyk Interview

Luke Bilyk who plays the one and only Drew on Degrassi recently spoke with entertainment news blog Jayswag.com. In the interview he talks about how he got the part of Drew and how his life has changed since he got the role. He also discusses getting recognized around Toronto:

Do a lot of people notice you in public? Do you mind it?
Surprisingly, when I’m out in public people do recognize me and ask me if I’m Drew or yell out my name. “Are you Luke Bilyk? You’re on Degrassi right?” I get that quite a bit in places like Canada’s Wonderland or at the Mall. I don’t mind it at all and I find it amazing. It’s not bad, it just takes some getting used to.

Charlotte Arnold Interview With Back Stage

Check out this Charlotte Arnold interview with Back Stage from last week. She is adorable. In the little excerpt below she talks about staying grounded. She also discusses filming so many episodes for Degrassi and her real life high school experience!

A2W: How do you remain grounded?

CA: You need normalcy, and you need a family that’s going to keep you firmly on the ground. There are even people who I know in Toronto who are unbearably diva-like. I look at that and think, “You look ridiculous. People don’t want to spend time with you.”

It’s funny being here (in the U.S.), all the different people we meet who are involved in the industry, they’re so used to having people make demands. They’re rushing to please you. Ray (her co-star Raymond Ablack) and I are just like, “We’ll take what we can get. We’re happy to be here.”

Is There Still More Bobby to Come?

A new interview with Ben Lewis (the actor who plays Fiona’s boyfriend Bobby) reveals that he will be appearing once again later on in the season. Ben Lewis told The TV Addict: “I’ll be back in around the 20th episode and then beyond that I don’t know. I heard a rumor that i might be coming back at the end of the season.”

Interesting. He also talks about working with Annie, describing her as “the sweetest girl” and saying “we got along really really well from the very beginning which really helps, especially when you’re dealing with such sensitive subject matter.”
