TeenNick’s new season 11 promo was released earlier today at Ology.com. The promo hints at upcoming Sav, Eli, Clare/Jake, KC/Jenna, and Drew/Bianca storylines. We are now less than 1 month away from the premiere of season 11. Here’s hoping that Much Music releases a new season 11 promo soon (maybe during the MMVAs this weekend… hint hint).
TeenNick posted some gorgeous pictures from the Now or Never promo earlier this afternoon. The photos were taken by 17 year old Olivia Bolles, and they look amazing! Click here for new shots of Clare, Anya, Drew, Sav, and more!!

As you are all aware by now, the new Degrassi trailer was released earlier today. They gave the promo to EW.com to post, in a similar way that various celebrity news sources were leaking scenes from Degrassi Takes Manhattan and mid-season 10 premieres last year. The minute and a half long trailer may remind you of the various Skins trailers from previous years, but it definitely builds on the success of last season’s “Shark In The Water” promo. Check out the promo (if you haven’t already) and let us know what you think!
There has been some confusion lately about the season 11 episode titles. Today @StephenStohn confirmed via Twitter titles for the first 21 episodes. They are as follows:

Everyone has been wondering if TeenNick is going to air a season 11 teaser/promo this Friday, and it looks like a short teaser has leaked online! This video shows very little of season 11 – the only new shot is one quick one of Bianca at the end. I know there was some talk that this might be fake. However, it was posted by Kyle at Cable TV Talk. I think that it might be legit. TeenNick builds suspense in its classic TeenNick way. Check it out!
Even more S11 spoilers this week via The TV Addict. This time they hint at issues we can expect to see played out in season 11. Although they don’t specifically name which characters will face these issues, we can make a guess based on the statement below:

The TV Addict: Despite the fact that we would very much prefer you characterize our recent streak of DEGRASSI scoop as “remarkable” rather than “astounding,” we are more than happy to oblige. If only to put to rest one of the big concerns we’ve been hearing from a handful of DEGRASSI fans since we broke the news about cast additions for the upcoming eleventh season. Rest assured, said additions will in no way take away screen time from the current cast you’ve come to know and love. So much so that upcoming eleventh season episodes will have one student of the male persuasion tackle the taboo that is shoplifting, another who is no stranger to trouble finding herself confronted with cocaine, while a third fan favorite is forced to deal with the baggage that comes when two squabbling parents fail to handle their divorce as maturely as one might hope.

Much Music needs to link their blog entries on the Degrassi page, because this was posted 3 days ago and I hadn’t even seen it yet!
According to Much Music, we now have a date for when season 11 will premiere: July 18th!! Start planning now everyone, because I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some kind of premiere/meet and greet event around that time as well. Also, with 7 weeks of episodes, that means that we will likely see new episodes until Sept. 1st. Here is what Much Music had to say:
Do I even need to say anymore? Hell yeah I do! Not only is another season heading into production, but it’s returning this summer! And once again, Degrassi will air on Monday, and on Tuesday, and on – hell, all the days up to Thursday! Four nights a week…for SEVEN WEEKS LONG! And we can even tell you when it’s coming back: July 18th! Mark that date on your calendar from now!
No confirmation from TeenNick yet, but I think we can assume that the two networks will premiere new episodes at the same time as usual.

Much Music’s press release for season 11 came out this afternoon. The press release confirms what Stephen Stohn tweeted yesterday: another summer of the telenovela format and 3 new cast members. It also announces that the Monday to Friday summer format will be extended to 7 weeks. This is 1 week longer than season 10 (which was only 6 weeks long). Therefore, there will likely be 28 new episodes airing this summer. This is what the press release said:
Toronto, ON (March 25, 2011) – After three decades of groundbreaking and controversial storylines, MuchMusic’s #1 hit show DEGRASSI returns for an impressive 11th season this summer. Fans get their daily DEGRASSI fix as the show premieres for the second year in the highly successful Monday to Friday telenovela format, this year extending that run to seven weeks. With the enrolment of three new students and storylines that push the envelope even further with social topics facing teens today, DEGRASSI is guaranteed to set the bar higher than ever. Production for Season 11 has already begun in Toronto.
Joining DEGRASSI this season is the charming heartthrob Jake Martin (Justin Kelly), who tells it like it is and tries not to break too many hearts in the process. New student Katie Matlin (Chloe Rose) is a fresh-faced athlete who plays hard on the field but is soft when it comes to matters of the heart. Fun and energetic Imogen Moreno (Cristine Prosperi) is anything but boring, but she constantly fears her one, big secret could be exposed to the entire school.

Stephen Stohn announced new season 11 details via Twitter this afternoon! We are expecting a press release sometime tomorrow with more information. In the meantime, Stephen tweeted the following:
Yes, Degrassi Season 11 is confirmed, there’ll be 44 episodes (one of which is an hour-long, so 45 half-hours in total)… Cristine Prosperi, Justin Kelly and Chloe Rose join the cast as Imogen Moreno, Jake Martin and Katie Matlin … And the summer will have daily Degrassis like last summer.. with one twist you’ll like, which I’ll let MuchMusic announce!
It’s no surprise that Degrassi will produce 44 episodes once again this season. I’m guessing that the hour-long episode is either the premiere or the finale, which will be aired in a movie-esque way (see TeenNick’s promotion of Season 7’s “Bust a Move” as the “Degrassi Spring Break Movie”). Daily Degrassi’s this summer was also to be expected, given Degrassi’s success in the summer of 2010. What is this “twist” Stephen speaks of? I’m guessing that Much Music will be announcing it soon!
As for the new cast, it looks like they haven’t announced who will be playing Mo/Dennis yet. However, a quick google search of the others revealed the following information:
Cristine Prosperi as Imogen Moreno: Not much can be found about Cristine at this point. Apparently she may have appeared in the film Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming in 2007? This is unconfirmed. On Degrassi, Cristine will play Imogen, a fun, energetic girl who goes to great lengths to stand out in the crowd.
Justin Kelly as Jake Martin: Justin is already known by many Degrassi fans who follow him on Twitter (@IsJustKelly). Born in 1992, Justin played Noah Jackson on The Latest Buzz and Brody Thompson in The Jensen Project. On Degrassi, Justin will play Jake, the new heartthrob and Clare’s rumoured love interest.
Chloe Rose as Katie Matlin: Chloe must be a new actress, because my google search has drawn a blank. On Degrassi she will be playing Katie, Marisol’s BFF and a talented soccer player.

I don’t know where The TV Addict keeps getting this information, but they have revealed more season 11 spoilers this week!
You may remember hearing about a new character named Noah last month. Earlier this week, Stephen Stohn confirmed on Twitter that Noah’s name was now “Jake.” I guess that the boy who has been cast to play Noah preferred Jake instead.
Now we have more “Jake” spoilers via The TV Addict. Apparently, his storyline might involve Clare. This is what the TV Addict recently said (they are still calling him “Noah”):
Please tell me Fitz isn’t going to continue to come between Clare and Eli on DEGRASSI? – Jessica
The TV Addict: Honestly, at this point we’re far less concerned about born-again Fitz coming between Clare and Eli than we are about Noah Bradley, the school’s newest heartthrob who be joining the show next season. Turns out, Noah has a childhood connection to Clare, worst still, it’s a “friendship” that Noah’s meddlesome parents seem very keen on having them rekindle. Double Gulp!
As many of you know, season 11 is getting underway at Degrassi HQ. The cast was back this week for read-throughs and an orientation with the new cast. And from what we’ve heard, filming is expected to begin next Monday (March 14th).
We haven’t received much in terms of season 11 spoilers yet. However, last month TheTVAddict.com leaked 4 new character descriptions. Tonight, they revealed more season 11 casting news in their “Ask The Addict” column. New information suggests that Riley’s coming out storyline is far from over, with lots more family drama to come. It looks like we will be meeting Riley’s father next season, along with a new girl currently named “Athena.” Here’s what The TV Addict had to say:
The show currently on the look out to cast a disapproving father who isn’t on board with his son’s sexual orientation is… drumroll please… DEGRASSI. Got that Riley and Zane fans? You’re in for a bumpy ride. Particularly when you also take into account a casting notice that has gone out for “Athena,” a hot and athletic 17 year old who will soon be playing the part of Riley’s “beard.”

Degrassi is recording its new theme song today!!
The current Degrassi theme song has been used since season 9. For season 11, it’s time for something new! We don’t know the details of the new theme yet, but we’re guessing they will stick with “whatever it takes” (how could they get rid of a classic?).
We do know, however, that they have been recording with Tia from Eve and the Ocean as well as members of the The Canadian Childrens Opera Chorus! That is the children’s choir in the above photo, tweeted by Stephen Stohn. And yes, they are all wearing Degrassi caps!!
I am so excited to hear the new Degrassi theme song. They will be shooting the new intro video to go along with the theme in a few weeks.

Stephen Stohn gave a very interesting and insightful interview with The Star Scoop recently. He answered A LOT of ongoing questions the fans have. Firstly, he mentions that season 11 hasn’t technically been picked up by the networks yet, but it’s very likely that it will happen (no surprise there). He also talks about his favourite storylines, a new energy on set, and the possibility of any old characters coming back. AND we now know that the characters they are casting now (see these descriptions) are not the new grade 9’s expected to be introduced in the 2nd half of season 11. The new grade 9 class will be cast later, assuming season 11 moves forward. Finally, a big question on the minds of many fans has been this never ending talk of a spin-off. There have been Degrassi spin-off rumours since season 6. Here’s the latest from Stephen Stohn himself:
THE STAR SCOOP:
We’ve heard rumblings about a Degrassi spin off – what is the status (is this true?) and who might be included?
STEPHEN STOHN:
We’re working on the new show with the working title Highlands Gardens. It might or might not be a Degrassi spin-off — we’re still deciding. One of the characters could be a Degrassi character, although it could work not being a Degrassi character also, so we’re developing the show with both possibilities in mind. Shooting will be in August/September, so we’ll have had to make up our minds by then!

We’ve got some big news from TheTVAddict.com this afternoon! The website is reporting that casting notices for season 11 were recently sent out at the beginning of the month. This is done in order to start the process of adding new characters to the show. I guess these notices were leaked somehow, because it looks as though we can expect to see 4 new characters in season 11. TheTVAddict.com even posted descriptions and names for each character:
Name: Imogen Berish
Gender: Female
Age: 16 yrs
Fun, energetic, with a magnetic look and intense stare–Imogen would hate for anyone to think she’s boring, so she goes to great lengths to stand out from the crowd: bandaging her unwounded wrists, or even posing as a homeless kid to beg for change. She puts on the airs of being en enlightened individual, but it’s a ploy to manipulate those around her. She worries one day someone will discover her secret: she’s a normal kid looking for excitement in her life.
Name: Katie Matlin
Gender: Female
Age: 16 yrs
Katie works hard and plays hard. A gifted athlete, she’s been training to make the National Under 17 Woman’s Soccer Team. She’s pretty, but fresh-faced, her years of mastering the bicycle kick keeping her from learning how to cake on the make-up. She’s driven and thorough when it comes to academics and extracurriculars; she’s blunt and direct when talking to other girls, even fun-loving BFF Marisol; but when it comes to talking to boys or about matters of the heart, she clams up. The soccer field prepared her for a lot of things, but not love.
Dennis MacDonnell
Gender: Male
Age: 17 yrs
Dennis MacDonnell is an overweight grade 12 student. He’s self-aware, cynical, quick-witted and smart. Dennis has always struggled with his weight, and as a consequence, has taken a social backseat for most of high school. In his graduating year, Dennis is ready to put himself out there and have a great time before leaving Degrassi for good. Dennis’ keen ear and passion for music will bring him into a unique friendship with Sav and closer to his hidden crush: Alli.
Noah Bradley
Gender: Male
Age: 16 yrs
A man of few words, Degrassi’s new heartthrob is good with his hands and quick with a grin. Noah spends most of his free time at the cottage. After his mom died, he and his dad renovated their lake cabin in her honour. All of Noah’s shirtless hard work eventually paid off…especially when girls started admiring his boyish good looks and strong physique. Let’s just say Noah’s made out with his share of bikini clad Muskoka girls. But he never let them get in the way of the stuff he truly loves: watching sports, hanging with friends, fishing, and camping. He’s a guy’s guy who doesn’t play games and means what he says – all with a good dose of humour and charm.
Interesting that the ages seem to imply that these characters aren’t in grade 9…
I think we should take this information with a grain of salt, because characters can change overtime. It depends on who casting finds and what direction the writers decide to go in. Still, I see a lot of potential from these character descriptions so far! What do you guys think?
An Update from Stephen Stohn about Degrassi’s timeline for season 10/11:
“okay there seems to be confusion about the Degrassi timeline, and when the Boiling Point began and ends, and when Season 10 begins and ends. Here’s the scoop: the Boiling Point was the first half of Season 10–it ended last week, it was 24 episodes broadcast daily.. when the Boiling Point ended we were at Winter Break… when we pick up this October we will be returning from Winter Break.. the episodes starting this October are no longer rferred to as the Boiling Point, they are simply Degrassi.. they will be broadcast weekly there will be 20 episodes broadcast weekly in the second half of Season 10.. this is down slightly from our original projection of 24…at the end of the 20 episodes in the second half of Season 10 we will be just starting Spring Break. while nothing is confirmed, the ratings for Degrassi have been so good this year that we are very confident there will be a Season 11… Season 11 would start likely in July of next year at Spring Break… ..and the first half of Season 11 would likely consist of 24 episodes broadcast daily–just like this year!”
